for the past 4 years i have consigned the kids’ clothes and toys.
2 local organizations hold HUGE consignment sales…spring and fall…each sale is a 4 day event. Thursday, everyone checks in their items, Friday is the pre-sale for the volunteers, Saturday is the sale, and Sunday everything is marked down 50%!!
so..for the past 2 weeks i have been washing, hanging, tagging and itemizing over 200 items to sell….its a lot of work but a wonderful event!
i not only get rid of all the clothes they outgrow, but i earn 70% of what sells, and the other 30% is donated to each organization…AND if i volunteer to help with the sale i get a ticket to the pre-sale…and do a little shopping myself!!! When cooper was born i bought a Pottery Barn crib for $100, this year i found him almost new Keen sandals for $8!
this year along with the clothes and baby toys, i will be consigning our strollers…which is a little sad to me…no more babies to push :( but on the other hand…no more strollers to lug around!! :)
out with the old…and in with the new!!!

Jess, I did it 1 year for the Lee one. I haven't done it again though because I was little upset I only made like $30 bucks & it took sooo long for me to get everything ready for it. oh well, maybe I'll try it again in the future.
You have lots of good stuff to sell! Good luck! :) I've never consigned before.
I know, getting rid of some of the baby stuff is kind of sad, but it's also fun, and you know there are all kinds of new adventures awaiting you as they grow.....
Yes, but just the children's clothing, a few toys, and children's books we want to share. We also donate to the library and church.
We dont consign as much as we used to...mostly because the boys wear their clothes completely out!
We love to buy consigned clothes though! We have several fun stores for kids and teens and adults too.
there's a group right near here on the North Shore that puts on an identical consignment sale each spring/fall ... I didn't hear about it until my kids were a bit too old (as in: not turning over the clothes/toys as fast anymore) ... I have a good friend with younger kids who does it, though, and although it's a ton of work/prep, I know she does really well - hope you do, too!!
I have only taken a few things over the years to sell but I have bought tons. I love to find new and almost new things for so much less money. I love to shop for myself that way also, buying Ann Taylor and other expensive things is so much easier on the budget! Good luck!
That is great! One of the downfalls of having two of the same sex is that you hold onto EVERYTHING. Then, 4 years later, when the younger one is ready to wear the clothes, they are either out of style or you've forgotten where you stored them so they don't get used. Then you're so over it you just donate it. If I was smart, I'd skip the saving portion and consign!
